New Street in Omsk City Honors Chingiz Aitmatov
Bishkek – On September 17, 2024, the mayor of Omsk city in Russia, Sergei Shelest, announced that one of the streets in the city will be named after the People’s Writer of Kyrgyzstan, Chingiz Aitmatov. This decision was made during the opening ceremony of the Days of Kyrgyz Culture in Omsk.
The event, which took place at the Omsk State Scientific Library named after A.S. Pushkin, showcased the rich cultural exchange between Kyrgyzstan and Omsk. More than 10,000 Kyrgyz people live in Omsk, and the Days of Kyrgyz Culture provided them with an opportunity to share their history and culture with the residents of Omsk.

This gesture highlights the strong ties between the two cultures and the importance of promoting mutual understanding through cultural exchange.
