New Sugar Factory to Increase Production in Kazakhstan’s Atyrau Region

Goldbridge International has announced plans to build a sugar factory in the Atyrau Region of Kazakhstan, with an annual production capacity of 144,000 tons. The total investment for the project is estimated at 58 billion tenge ($112.9 million), with 80% of the funding coming from a Chinese investor.

The project, expected to create 200 jobs, aims to meet the domestic demand for sugar in Kazakhstan. Approximately 900,000 tons of raw materials from sugar beets or cane will be required for production, and the investor has already secured a partnership with a local Atyrau company for beet cultivation.

Scheduled for completion by the summer of 2026, the construction of the factory has received strong support from Serik Shapkenov, the akim (mayor) of the Atyrau Region. Shapkenov highlighted that Kazakhstan currently imports 90% of its sugar and sees the project as a significant contribution to the country’s agricultural sector.

“This is an essential and impactful project for us,” said Shapkenov. “The land in Atyrau is perfect for beet cultivation, and I believe this project will not only meet domestic demand but also contribute to the growth of our agricultural sector. We are prepared to provide all necessary infrastructure.”

The initiative signifies a significant step towards enhancing Kazakhstan’s self-sufficiency in sugar production and fostering growth in the agricultural industry. With the commitment of both local and foreign investors, the future looks promising for the sugar factory in the Atyrau Region.
