New Superman Film Title Change: Decoding the First Visual
Director James Gunn recently shared a sneak peek of the upcoming Superman movie, officially titled just “Superman,” on the first day of shooting. The film, set to launch the DC Universe, began filming on February 29th, which also happens to be Superman’s birthday.
Gunn surprised fans by revealing that the original title “Superman: Legacy” has been changed to simply “Superman” as he finalized the script for the movie. In a statement on his Threads account, Gunn explained, “When I finished the first draft of the script, I named the movie Superman: Legacy. When I locked in the final draft it was clear that the title was SUPERMAN. We are heading towards July 2025. Happy Birthday Clark!“
In this new Superman movie, David Corenswet will take on the role of the iconic Man of Steel, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The story will follow Superman in a world where superheroes are already present, but he is seen as old-fashioned for valuing kindness.
The photo shared by Gunn showcases a close-up of the Superman costume, with the famous logo surrounded by snow. This detail has sparked speculation that The Fortress of Solitude, a significant location in Superman lore, could play a major role in the film.
The Fortress of Solitude, located in the Arctic, serves as Superman’s sanctuary and headquarters in the comics. It is where he learns about his Kryptonian heritage and purpose on Earth. The fortress is known for a statue of Superman’s parents, Jor-El and Lara, holding a Kryptonian sphere.
Additionally, The Fortress of Solitude features a laboratory where Superman conducts experiments involving kryptonite. The iconic location has appeared in various Superman films over the years, and fans are eager to see how James Gunn will interpret it in his movie.
