Bishkek – 24.kg news agency – by Merimai ALYBEKOVA

The Deputy Minister of Energy, Taalaibek Baigaziev, has announced that the tariff for electricity and heat will be revised in Kyrgyzstan. In an interview with Birinchi Radio, he revealed that a new tariff policy will be developed in the near future.

Baigaziev highlighted the necessity of updating the current tariff plan, stating that it is outdated and needs to be revised to account for changes in the energy sector. He emphasized that the new tariff policy will be flexible, with energy costs varying based on factors such as time of day. Additionally, he mentioned that large elite houses will receive energy at cost price, while the tariff for poor and socially vulnerable people will be set according to social protection norms.

The announcement comes in the wake of a breakdown at the Bishkek heating and power plant (HPP) on February 2, which resulted in an explosion. The causes of the explosion remain unknown, and five people were injured, three of whom were hospitalized. As a result, schools and kindergartens in the capital switched to online classes. However, by the evening of February 2, the supply of heat and hot water in Bishkek was partially restored.

The upcoming changes in the tariff policy present a significant shift in the energy sector in Kyrgyzstan, with the aim of ensuring fair and efficient distribution of energy resources. These changes are anticipated to lead to positive outcomes and improved access to energy for all residents.
