New Traffic Regulation: Fine for Driving in Bus Lanes Up to 1.12 Million UZS

The Senate of the Oliy Majlis has officially passed a bill that will introduce fines for drivers who illegally use designated bus lanes in Uzbekistan. The fines are aimed at improving the efficiency of public transportation and ensuring that drivers follow traffic rules related to public transport lanes.

First-time violators will face a fine of 375,000 UZS, while repeat offenders within a year will be fined 1.12 million UZS. These fines have been reduced from the initial proposals in order to strike a balance between enforcement and compliance.

The bill introduces a new article, Article 128-7, to the Administrative Responsibility Code, which specifically deals with violations of traffic rules related to designated public transport lanes. The wording and provisions of Article 128 have also been revised to accommodate these changes.

In addition to fines for driving in bus lanes, the new law will also hold drivers accountable for other offenses such as driving on sidewalks, pedestrian and bicycle lanes, green spaces, and ignoring traffic signs and other road regulations.

The bill still requires the signature of the President of Uzbekistan to take effect. Lawmakers began developing this legislation in November 2024, and by January 2025, the Legislative Chamber had approved the law with reduced fines for first-time and repeat offenders.

These new fines are a step towards ensuring road safety and improving public transportation in Uzbekistan. It is hoped that by enforcing these penalties, drivers will be more mindful of the rules of the road and help create a safer environment for all road users.
