New UNICEF Representative Arrives in Kyrgyz Republic

Bishkek – 11:57, 30 April 2024 – The new UNICEF Representative to the Kyrgyz Republic, Samman Jung Thapa, has officially arrived in the country. This was confirmed by the press service of the organization.

Thapa recently presented his accreditation letter to the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Asein Isaev. With a wealth of experience and expertise in social policy, child rights, and international development, Thapa is set to make a significant impact in advancing children’s rights in the region.

In his role as the UNICEF Representative, Thapa will work towards promoting children’s rights to protection, development, and well-being as outlined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child. He will also focus on strengthening partnerships with the Government, international organizations, civil society, and the private sector to ensure that all children in Kyrgyzstan have the necessary support to thrive.

Prior to his current position, Thapa served as the UNICEF Regional Adviser for Social Policy and Social Protection in the Middle East and North Africa region, based in Amman, Jordan. With 16 years of experience with UNICEF in Asia and the Middle East, Thapa has been involved in poverty analysis, data strengthening, social protection systems, humanitarian response, and financing of social sectors.

His arrival marks a new chapter in UNICEF’s efforts to support the well-being of children in Kyrgyzstan, and his expertise will undoubtedly contribute to positive changes in the region.
