New Visas Open Work Opportunities for Uzbek Citizens in South Korea

Uzbekistan to Allow Dispatch of Workers for Seasonal and Skilled Work

The Ministry of Employment in Uzbekistan has announced plans to allow its citizens to go to South Korea for seasonal and skilled work. This decision will see the introduction of two additional visa permits for Uzbek workers, according to a statement from the Ministry.

Minister of Employment and Labor Relations, Bekhzod Musayev, recently met with a delegation from the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Korea to discuss the details of this new opportunity. The discussions centered around the E-8 visa for seasonal work and the E-7 visa for skilled work, in addition to the existing E-9 visa for unskilled work that is currently available to Uzbek citizens.

While a specific timeline for the implementation of these new visa permits has not been announced, the Ministry is working on ensuring the safe and legal organization of labor migration. Measures to prevent illegal work by Uzbek citizens in Korea were also addressed during the meeting.

In light of recommendations from IMRI experts in 2022, Uzbekistan aims to diversify its labor migration options by offering English and other foreign language courses. By 2024, the Ministry of Employment plans to send 100 thousand Uzbek citizens to work in South Korea, with lucrative salary offers of up to $2.5 thousand in various sectors such as construction, services, agriculture, and manufacturing. Additionally, South Korea has plans to employ 3 thousand Uzbeks in the auto industry.

Overall, this initiative marks a significant step in facilitating the movement of Uzbek workers for seasonal and skilled work opportunities abroad, promising economic benefits and opportunities for both the workers and the countries involved.
