New York Meeting Focuses on Peacebuilding Challenges
Turkmenistan Delegation Discusses Peacebuilding Issues at UN Meeting in New York
The delegation of Turkmenistan, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, participated in the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 27, 2024. During the meeting, they had discussions with Rosemary A. DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs.
It was highlighted that Turkmenistan considers cooperation with the United Nations to be of strategic importance. The parties exchanged views on various regional and international issues, emphasizing the need for joint efforts to strengthen international cooperation and security both regionally and globally.
The talks also focused on Turkmenistan’s collaboration with the UN, particularly through the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, which plays a key role in promoting peace, stability, and security in the region. The parties discussed ways to enhance the capacity of UNRCCA for better effectiveness.
Moreover, Turkmenistan’s significant contributions to the socio-economic development of Afghanistan were acknowledged during the meeting. Turkmenistan continues to provide humanitarian aid, build social infrastructure, and offer medical support to the people in Afghanistan.
The discussion also touched upon the upcoming events to be held in Turkmenistan with the participation of relevant UN bodies. Additionally, the parties deliberated on the implementation of the UN General Assembly Resolution declaring 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, a proposal initiated by Turkmenistan.
Overall, the meeting served as a platform to reaffirm Turkmenistan’s commitment to international peacebuilding efforts and strengthen its collaboration with the United Nations for a more peaceful and secure world.
