Renowned American Photographer Wins Prestigious Award for Documenting Kazakh Eagle Hunting Tradition
Astana – Karolina Wojtasik, a talented photographer from the United States, recently visited Kazakhstan for the first time in February. During her visit, she documented the ancient art of coastal, also known as hunting with birds of prey. Her stunning photographs have now earned her the prestigious Communication Arts Awards of Excellence in documentary photography, a significant achievement she shared in an Instagram post on April 4.
The captivating images were captured in the Almaty Region, specifically in the village of Kurty and the foothills of the Ile Alatau. Wojtasik had the privilege of observing and photographing the World Champions Among Tutchi (hawkers), individuals who have devoted their lives to the craft of raising and hunting with birds.
