New Zealand to Ban Single-Use E-Cigarettes
The issue of electronic cigarette use among young people in New Zealand is causing concern, as Deputy Minister of Health Casey Castello recently expressed. Castello emphasized the need to protect minors from the dangers of electronic cigarettes and announced plans for new regulations.
The proposed regulation aims to prohibit the sale of electronic cigarettes to individuals under the age of 18, with possible fines of up to 60 thousand dollars for businesses found in violation. Additionally, starting in August 2023, all electronic cigarettes must be equipped with a child safety lock to safeguard against accidental use by children.
Furthermore, in an effort to curb the appeal of electronic cigarettes to young people, the use of enticing names such as “cotton candy” and “strawberry jelly cake” in product marketing has been banned in New Zealand. These measures are part of a larger strategy to address the rising trend of electronic cigarette use in the country.
