TAP AG plans to reduce carbon footprint with electric compressors

TAP AG Consortium Considers Installation of Electric Compressors Along TAP Pipeline
The TAP AG consortium is exploring the possibility of installing electric compressors at both existing and future compressor stations along the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP). This decision was announced by TAP AG Managing Director Luca Schieppati during ministerial meetings in Baku, within the framework of the Advisory Councils on the Southern Gas Corridor and Green Energy.
Schieppati highlighted the consortium’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint by implementing a Greenhouse Gas Emissions Management Plan until 2025, which includes short-term emission reduction targets. He mentioned that the installation of new electric compressors at both existing and future stations is being considered, especially if the pipeline system is expanded.
The Trans Adriatic Pipeline represents a crucial link in Europe’s energy security and transition to a low-carbon future, according to Schieppati. He emphasized TAP’s readiness to support Europe’s decarbonization efforts and contribute to the EU’s climate and energy goals by gradually increasing the current pipeline capacity.
The pipeline, which spans 878 kilometers and crosses Greece, Albania, the Adriatic Sea, and Italy, officially commenced commercial operation on November 15, 2020. Azerbaijan started exporting gas to Europe on December 31, 2020, as part of an agreement with the EU to supply at least 20 billion cubic meters of gas per year by 2027. Italy will receive 1 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas in the first phase of the pipeline expansion, while Albania will receive 200 million cubic meters.
The installation of electric compressors along the TAP Pipeline demonstrates the consortium’s commitment to sustainability and aligns with its goal of contributing to Europe’s energy transition towards a more environmentally friendly future.
