Newborn Gang Defendants Appear Before Judge for Third Time
The Newborn Gang Case continues to unfold as the third hearing took place in the Bakırköy 22nd High Criminal Court. Over 46 defendants were detained in connection with the case where multiple babies lost their lives due to incorrect treatment methods. During this hearing, witnesses such as doctors, nurses, and ambulance drivers gave their statements, shedding light on the tragic events.
One of the witnesses, Children’s Intensive Care Service Doctor Oktay Torun, shared his experience in the courtroom. He revealed that attempts were made to falsely assign responsibility to him for a newborn he was not in charge of. Despite resistance, he was pressured to sign a document holding him accountable for the baby’s death, a situation he refused to comply with, ultimately leading to his departure from the hospital.
Chief nurse Fatma Akarsu recounted the process from when the baby first arrived at the hospital, highlighting the lack of appropriate care given the situation. The testimony of Hakan Doğukan Taşçı, who justified placing the 6-month-old baby in the newborn service instead of intensive care, raised further questions about the handling of critical cases by the medical staff involved.
As the first session of the third hearing concluded, the focus now shifts to the defense of the defendants and their legal representatives. The trial is expected to continue in the coming days with more revelations and testimonies adding to the complex narrative of the Newborn Gang Case.
