Nightmare Continues: MÜSİLAJ Invasion Spreads around the Islands

The MÜSİLAJ nightmare continues in the Marmara Sea, with intensification seen around the islands. This stubborn issue, which first emerged in 2021, has made a reappearance in the coastal areas of the Adalar district. Municipal teams are currently working hard to clean up the affected areas.

MÜSİLAJ, also known as sea saliva, has been concentrated in areas such as Kınalıada, Burgazada, and Heybeliada. It has spread to port areas and fishing shelters where boats are moored. In some points close to the harbor, the mucilage has become particularly dense, causing concern among residents.

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) has dispatched teams to Heybeliada to conduct cleaning operations on the surface of the sea. Aerial images captured by drones show the extent of the problem, with Büyükada appearing to be less affected compared to the other islands in the region.

Efforts are ongoing to address the MÜSİLAJ issue and prevent its further spread in the Marmara Sea. Residents and authorities alike are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to combat this environmental challenge.
