NMMC Announces $450 Million Investment in Renewable Energy

NMMC to Launch 500 MW Solar Power Plant in Tamdy District

The Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company (NMMC) is making significant strides towards utilizing renewable energy sources with the upcoming launch of a 500 MW solar power plant in the Tamdy district. According to a report by Mining.com, NMMC has developed a comprehensive three-year roadmap aimed at expanding the use of renewable energy within its operations.

The ambitious program includes the installation of photovoltaic panels, solar water heaters, and the implementation of energy-saving technologies, with a total estimated cost of $450 million. The flagship project under this program is the construction of a massive 500 MW solar power plant, initially set to power NMMC facilities.

The first phase of the solar power plant, boasting a capacity of 220 MW and projected to generate up to 374 million kWh of energy annually, is expected to be operational by the end of this year. Following this, the second phase, with a capacity of 280 MW (476 million kWh), is scheduled for launch in the fourth quarter of 2025.

In addition to the solar power plant, photovoltaic arrays are being installed directly on NMMC’s facilities. As of the first half of this year, panels with a total capacity of 5.75 MW have been installed, with systems totaling 1.2 MW already operational by the end of 2023.

NMMC’s First Deputy Director, Yevgeny Antonov, emphasized the importance of investing in renewable energy as a means to reduce operating costs, minimize environmental pollution, and secure a sustainable future. Furthermore, the company aims to drastically reduce electricity consumption by 262.4 kWh and natural gas consumption by 7.1 million cubic meters by the end of this year.

With NMMC’s commitment to renewable energy and energy efficiency, the future looks bright for a greener and more sustainable approach to power generation in the Tamdy district.
