Pekka Lundmark, the CEO of Finnish company Nokia, recently made history by placing the world’s first phone call using "immersive audio and video" technology. This cutting-edge development aims to revolutionize the way we communicate over the phone.
Traditionally, sound in smartphones has been transmitted in a monophonic form, leading to flat and less detailed audio quality. However, with the introduction of 3D audio technology, phone calls will now have a surround sound effect with higher detail, enhancing the overall calling experience. During the groundbreaking call, Lundmark used a regular smartphone connected to a public 5G network to reach Stefan Lindström, an expert in digitalization and new technologies in Finland. Nokia Technologies President, Jenny Lukander, also shared her enthusiasm for this technological advancement, comparing it to the shift from monaural telephony to the current standard used in smartphones and PCs.
