Non-Prosecution Decision in Sports Writer Güren Tilki Case

Turkish Cypriot Sports Writer’s Association member Cleared of Charges

Güren Tilki, a member of the Turkish Cypriot Sports Writer’s Association, was recently in the news after being charged with an offense. However, the case against him has now been dropped due to lack of prosecution.

Tilki, who also works as a reporter for the Independent Newspaper Güzelyurt, was traveling to Turkey with the Sports Writer’s Association delegation when he was arrested upon arrival in Istanbul. After being detained and questioned at the Çağlayan courthouse and the police station at the airport, the case against him has now been dropped.

According to the Turkish Cypriot Sports Writer’s Association, the case against Tilki was dismissed due to lack of prosecution. They also confirmed that his entry into Istanbul took place under normal conditions.

The charges against Tilki stemmed from a tweet he sent four years ago regarding a match between Galatasaray and Başakşehir played in Turkey, in which he was accused of insulting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. As a result, a compensation decision of 5400 TL was given against him.

With the case now dropped, Tilki can continue his work as a journalist and a member of the Turkish Cypriot Sports Writer’s Association without any legal obstacles.
