Nooken District Officials Arrested for Land Plot Fraud
A corruption scheme has been unearthed in the provision of land plots for individual housing construction in the Nooken district of Jalal-Abad region, Kyrgyzstan. The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) reported that from 2017 to 2021, officials of Burgondu rural area provided land plots for monetary compensation without following the proper procedures. The land was given to individuals who already owned housing, were not registered in the area, and even to citizens under 18 years old.
In response to the corruption case, the former head of Burgondu rural area and a land management specialist have been detained and placed in the pre-trial detention center of the State Committee for National Security for Jalal-Abad region.
The State Committee for National Security noted that they are conducting a set of investigative and operational measures to identify the involvement of other officials in these illegal acts.
