North Macedonian Club Fire Victims Released from Hospital in Hungary
The condition of the injured in the disco fire in northern Macedonia who were transported to Hungary is improving, and three of them are expected to return home this week, the North Pest Center Hospital – Honvédkórház informed MTI on Monday.
Following the tragic nightclub fire in the town of Kočani on March 16, where the North Macedonian government requested international assistance for the medical care of those injured, Hungary offered to take over 19 patients to treat the injured, and six of them arrived in the country.
Two women and four men, all aged over 18, were taken to the North Pest Center Hospital – Honvédkórház. Thanks to careful and professional care, three of them are expected to return home this week. The general condition of the other three patients is stable, and their burns and intensive care are ongoing. The necessary equipment and facilities have been provided for their recovery.
On March 16, 2025, a fire at the Pulse nightclub in Kočani, North Macedonia, resulted in the death of at least 59 people. The fire, caused by pyrotechnics according to interior minister Panče Toškovski, also injured 196 people, many of whom were hospitalized domestically and abroad. This incident is the deadliest nightclub fire in Europe since the 2015 Bucharest nightclub fire and the deadliest fire in North Macedonia’s history.
In response to the disaster, there were anti-corruption protests, and a government-ordered three-day inspection of all nightclubs and cabarets in the country led to the closure of many entertainment venues. The nightclub in question was described as an “improvised nightclub” without a legal license to operate, with only one effective exit discovered during an inspection after the fire.
It is imperative to continue providing support and care for the injured victims of this tragic incident, and our thoughts are with all those affected by this devastating event.
