“Nosferatu” featuring Lily-Rose Depp & Bill Skarsgard gets release date confirmed
The long-awaited release date for the adaptation of Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu” has finally been set. Focus Features announced that the much-anticipated remake of the classic horror film will hit theaters on December 25, 2024.
Directed by Robert Eggers, known for his work on “The Lighthouse”, “The Northman” and “The Witch”, the film is already generating a lot of buzz. It was shot at the Barrandov Studio in Prague and features an all-star cast including Bill Skarsgard, Lily-Rose Depp, Nicolas Hoult, Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, and Simon McBurney.
The remake promises to be a departure from the original 1922 film, which was shot in the German Expressionism cinema style. Instead, Eggers’ version is said to be more colorful and will feature an artistic style reminiscent of 19th-century Romanticism. The story is described as a gothic tale of obsession set in 19th-century Germany, where a young woman is haunted by unknown entities and stalked by an ancient Transylvanian vampire, Count Orlok, played by Bill Skarsgard.
“Robert Eggers’ bold filmmaking is always a gift to fans, and we can promise his Nosferatu is going to be quite the Christmas treat,” said Focus Features President Peter Kujawski in a statement.
The announcement of the release date has also sparked speculation about the film potentially joining the fall festival circuit. At the same time, it is expected that the release date of Universal’s horror movie, directed by Jordan Peele, which was also scheduled for December 25, 2024, will likely change to avoid competition with “Nosferatu”.
