
NRCST Unveils Blueprint for Future Projects

The National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan held an information and educational event on January 31st in a hybrid format with the participation of various international organizations. This event focused on issues of cooperation with the United Nations, data exchange with ministries and departments of the country, and the practical implementation of the Action Plan for 2024-2026 on the implementation of international humanitarian law in Turkmenistan.
The NRCST is also a member of the Working Group of the Interdepartmental Commission on Ensuring Compliance with Turkmenistan’s international obligations in the field of human rights and International Humanitarian Law. The Society has been recognized for its work in disseminating knowledge about international humanitarian law and its implementation into legislation. It has organized trainings and seminars and prepared textbooks for secondary school teachers.
Turkmenistan, as a permanent member of the International Organization for Migration, has been contributing significantly to the efforts of the world community by implementing projects and programs in the field of reducing statelessness. In September 2023 alone, 1,301 more people representing 32 nationalities and residing in the country became citizens of Turkmenistan. In addition, 265 citizens of 13 states and representatives of 25 nationalities were issued residence permits. Over the years, a total of 29,697 people have been admitted to the citizenship of Turkmenistan, and 4,753 foreign citizens and stateless persons have received residence permits.
The event was attended by representatives from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Central Asia, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the International Committee of the Red Cross in Turkmenistan. The Society aims to strengthen its potential by increasing the level of knowledge of its employees and volunteers, and the event provided information on plans for further activities of the NRCST.
Overall, the event highlighted the commitment of Turkmenistan to international cooperation and the promotion of humanitarian values and initiatives. With the support of various international organizations, the NRCST continues to make significant contributions to humanitarian efforts in the region.
