Bishkek Opera and Ballet Theater Director Detained for Corruption
Almazbek Istambaev, the general director of the Opera and Ballet Theater in Bishkek, has been detained on charges of corruption. The State Committee for National Security reported that Istambaev was involved in signing long-term lease agreements for state property that were deemed unfavorable for the state, indicating an abuse of official position.
The investigation into Istambaev’s actions falls under Article 337, which pertains to the abuse of official position in the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. As a result, pre-trial proceedings have been initiated, and Istambaev has been placed in the temporary detention center of the State Committee for National Security.
The State Committee for National Security has also stated that they are conducting investigative and operational measures to identify any other officials involved in the case and to seek compensation for the damage caused.
This development highlights the ongoing efforts in Kyrgyzstan to detect and suppress corruption, particularly in the field of leasing activities. The authorities are working to hold accountable those who engage in corrupt practices and to ensure that state property is managed in the best interests of the country.
The news of Istambaev’s detention sends a strong message that corrupt behavior will not be tolerated and that individuals who abuse their positions for personal gain will face legal consequences. As the investigation unfolds, there will likely be further developments in this case.
