Orbán Government Worried about Soros’s Influence in Ukraine’s EU Membership
Fidesz, the ruling party in Hungary, is expressing concerns about recent talks held by George Soros’ son, Alex Soros, with Ukrainian leaders regarding Ukraine’s potential accession to the EU. MEP Balázs Hidvéghi announced on Friday that Fidesz will be submitting a written inquiry to the European Commission regarding these discussions.
The controversy stems from photos of Alex Soros standing in front of an EU flag while Ukrainian Prime Minister is seen with a Ukrainian flag in the background. This has led to speculation that Alex Soros may have been representing the EU in the talks, which has raised eyebrows among Hungarian officials. Hidvéghi emphasized that it is inappropriate for an unelected American businessman to be involved in discussions about a country’s EU membership.
In addition, Hidvéghi suggested that members of the European Commission are having regular consultations with the new leader of the Soros network, implying a close relationship between the EU and the Soros organization.
This development comes at a time when tensions between the Hungarian government and the Soros foundation are already high. The recent departure of the Soros foundation from Hungary has left several Liberal NGOs in a state of disarray, further contributing to the strained relationship between Hungary and the Soros network.
This news follows a recent incident in which a Hungarian man attempted to use fake currency adorned with a picture of George Soros in a local pub, indicative of the deep-seated animosity towards the Soros family in Hungary.
The actions by Fidesz reflect the ongoing political and ideological divisions within the European Union, as well as Hungary’s continued resistance to outside influence, particularly from individuals like George Soros and his associates. It remains to be seen how the European Commission will respond to Fidesz’s inquiry and what implications this may have for Hungary’s relationship with both Ukraine and the EU.
