OSCE Secretary General Visits South Caucasus, Emphasizes Commitment to Peace
The recent visit of OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu to the South Caucasus has underscored the organization’s dedication to fostering peace and stability in the region. This was highlighted in an official statement issued by the OSCE following Sinirlioglu’s tour of Yerevan and Baku.
During his visit, Sinirlioglu recognized the efforts being made by both Armenia and Azerbaijan to promote regional peace. He expressed optimism about the imminent signing of a peace agreement, noting that the finalization of the agreement text is a significant milestone. “The OSCE stands ready to support Armenia and Azerbaijan as they navigate their path toward sustainable peace,” he affirmed.
In addition to discussions focused on peace, Sinirlioglu toured the Baku International Sea Trade Port. Here, he explored opportunities for enhanced cooperation in transportation and connectivity, which are vital to the region’s economic development. The Port of Baku serves as a crucial hub along the Middle Corridor, facilitating multimodal transportation links between Europe and Asia. This port is also a participant in the OSCE’s project aimed at promoting green ports and sustainable transport connectivity in the Caspian Sea region, thereby fostering economic growth.
Through this visit, the OSCE reaffirms its role in supporting initiatives that promote stability and sustainable development in the South Caucasus, reaffirming its commitment to a peaceful future for Armenia and Azerbaijan.
