
Outbreak in Siverek: Rabid Dog Attacks Three People, 6-Month Quarantine Imposed

A stray dog attack in the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa left 3 people injured, prompting authorities to take swift action. The incident, which occurred on January 27, 2025, involved a dog attacking residents in the Sungurlu and Divan neighborhoods. Following examinations, it was confirmed that the dog was carrying rabies, leading to a quarantine order for the divan, garden, takoran, and surrounding areas for a period of 6 months.
In response to the incident, local officials quickly provided medical treatment to the injured individuals at the Siverek State Hospital. The affected individuals received IVIG, tetanus, and rabies vaccinations, with one person being referred to Dicle University Hospital for further treatment. Fortunately, the general health status of the victims was reported to be good.
To prevent further incidents, the District Directorate of Agriculture took action by locating and euthanizing the aggressive stray dog. Samples were sent for testing to confirm the presence of rabies, resulting in the implementation of a 6-month quarantine in the affected neighborhoods.
Additionally, emergency vaccination efforts were initiated for all owned and stray cats and dogs in the area. Siverek Municipality ensured that stray animals were placed in shelters in Şanlıurfa as part of the quarantine measures.
Authorities emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts between various agencies, including the District Health Directorate and Gendarmerie Command, to safeguard public health. They also urged the public to remain cautious and assured that regular updates would be provided on the situation.
