Clean Water Initiative Underway in Kyrgyzstan

As of July 31, 2024, only 637 out of 1,906 villages in Kyrgyzstan have access to clean water, as reported by the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry. The remaining 1,071 villages are set to receive clean drinking water in the near future.

A program is currently in place to provide 260 settlements across the country with clean water. Additionally, a program for the utilization of groundwater from wells for the years 2024-2030 is also in development. This program includes an inventory and restoration of wells, with plans to repair 1,155 wells at a cost of 3.6 billion soms.

Bakyt Torobaev, the head of the Ministry of Water Resources, has emphasized the importance of expediting the process to ensure that villagers have access to clean water without any delays.

The efforts to provide clean water to all villages in Kyrgyzstan signify a crucial step towards improving the quality of life for its residents. It is a vital initiative that aims to address a basic human need and promote overall health and well-being in the country.
