Over 77,000 Kyrgyzstanis Obtain CMI Certificates

The Kyrgyz Ministry of Health has reported that at least 77,205 people in Kyrgyzstan have purchased compulsory medical insurance (CMI) certificates. This announcement was made by Health Minister Alymkadyr Beishenaliev during a meeting of the Parliament.
According to Deputy Suyunbek Omurzakov, Kyrgyzstanis who have received the compulsory medical insurance certificates are entitled to several benefits. These benefits include free medicines and free operations. Citizens also receive benefits in surgery, therapy, and cardiology.
However, the deputy highlighted the fact that many citizens do not fully understand what a compulsory medical insurance certificate is, and therefore requested for detailed information to be provided to the public.
As of April 2023, citizens of Kyrgyzstan are required to have the compulsory medical insurance certificate. This requirement applies to employees of certain organizations who pay taxes but do not make contributions to compulsory medical insurance, unregistered unemployed individuals, as well as stateless persons and foreigners temporarily residing in the country.
The cost of a compulsory medical insurance certificate for citizens of Kyrgyzstan is 1,722 soms for the current year, with annual revisions. For foreigners, the cost is 8,196 soms for six months or 16,391 soms for twelve months. The certificate is issued for a duration of 12 months from the date of payment.
These measures are part of the government’s efforts to ensure access to healthcare for all citizens and residents of Kyrgyzstan, and to strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
