The rate of happy people in Turkey has seen a noticeable increase, according to the 2023 life satisfaction survey carried out by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). In addition, the rate of individuals who declared that they were unhappy decreased from 15.9 percent to 13.7 percent over the same time period.

The survey revealed that married individuals were generally happier than unmarried individuals, with a happiness rate of 56.4 percent for married people compared to 45.8 percent for unmarried individuals in 2023. The highest increase in happiness was observed in the 18-24 age group, with their happiness rate rising from 47.9 percent in 2022 to 54 percent in 2023.

The survey also shed light on the sources of happiness for individuals. The majority stated that their families were the main source of happiness, with a percentage of 69.9. Meanwhile, being healthy was reported as the most significant factor contributing to happiness, with 69.5 percent of individuals citing it as their primary source of happiness.

Despite the rise in happiness levels, the most pressing concern for the country was identified as the cost of living. In 2020, unemployment was the top concern, but by 2023, the cost of living had become the most significant issue, with 33.8 percent of respondents identifying it as the most important problem facing the country.

Overall, the survey painted a positive picture of happiness and satisfaction levels in Turkey, with optimism for the future remaining high, and a noticeable increase in the average life satisfaction level from 5.5 in 2022 to 5.7 in 2023.
