Overseas Results Reveal Clearer Picture of Election Outcome
A significant number of foreign votes were cast in the recent presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey, and the counting of those votes has started. The votes were taken under protection at the Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) Congresium Fair Center. According to Ahmet Yener, Chairman of the Supreme Election Board (YSK), 1,817,010 voters cast their votes out of 3,416,086 registered foreign voters. The number of overseas voters has increased significantly compared to the previous elections, and there are 24 political parties participating in the elections this time, making the process more complex. Despite the delay in counting, YSK chairman Yener reassured the public that there is no problem in entering data from district election boards to the boards, and the process is similar to that of the previous election.
Ali İhsan Yavuz, AK Party Deputy Chairman and Head of Election Affairs, explained that counting overseas votes take longer because there are 3-4 bags in each ballot box, and the process of counting takes longer due to shifts. The chairman of the Foreign District Election Board, Ali Uğuz, provided detailed information on the counting process, stating that there are 5,114 ballot boxes in 72 countries and 15 representations abroad, and each ballot box counts 3-5 bags, with shifts of workers taking place. The count of each ballot box may take longer than in the country itself.
The results of the overseas votes will have a significant impact on the election results, and the public is waiting eagerly to see the final outcome. However, YSK has stated that there is no need to rush the process, and the counting will continue until the morning.
