Özgür Özel: Some CHP Members Push for Rematch – Latest Updates from Turkey
As the local elections draw near, tensions are rising within the Republican People’s Party (CHP) as some members are seeking a rematch following the party’s failure on March 31. In a recent statement to Sözcü newspaper, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel expressed his observations on the situation.
Özel mentioned that there are CHP members who are eager for a rematch, especially in Istanbul, after the disappointing results of the previous election. He emphasized that if the CHP manages to secure a victory on March 31, it would significantly weaken the government and strengthen the position of the CHP.
Regarding the recent money counting investigation, Özel denounced it as a conspiracy aimed at undermining the party. He highlighted that the leaked footage, which dates back to four and a half years ago and was acquired through illegal means, is being used as a tool for political manipulation.
On a different note, Özel raised concerns about the Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor candidate of the Turkish Workers’ Party (TİP), Gökhan Zan. He warned that TİP’s candidate has the potential to jeopardize the election outcome in Hatay.
