Foreigner from Pakistan Thanks Kyrgyzstanis for Help During Incident in Bishkek
A citizen of Pakistan named Danish recorded a video message in Kyrgyz, expressing gratitude towards the people of Kyrgyzstan for their assistance. The video was sent to 24.kg news agency by a reader who wanted to share the positive message.
In his message, the foreigner recalled an incident that occurred between foreigners and Kyrgyz individuals in Bishkek. However, he mentioned that the situation has now stabilized, thanks to the support from the government, teachers, and locals during a difficult time.
“I want to thank our government, respected teachers, and locals for helping us during this difficult time. I hope, if we go back, these events will not happen again,” he noted.
The incident referred to was a spontaneous protest against foreigners that began on the evening of May 17 in Bishkek and lasted until the morning of May 18. The police were able to reach an agreement with the protesters, leading to the reopening of Chui Avenue and the dispersal of the crowd.
Several individuals were detained by the police for their involvement in attacks on foreign students and migrants, as well as on the places where they resided and worked. These individuals are facing charges under the article “Mass Protests” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Additionally, following a fight in a hostel on May 13, which was a contributing factor to the protests, four citizens of Egypt were detained by the police and later placed under house arrest. A criminal case was initiated against them under the article “Hooliganism” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Overall, the situation has improved, and the message of gratitude from the Pakistani citizen serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and support during challenging times.
