Pakistani Students Face Food Shortages at University in Bishkek
Students are beginning to make their way back to Pakistan after experiencing a horrifying incident of anti-foreigner violence in Bishkek. The night of May 17-18 turned into a nightmare for many students, who had to endure being locked inside their rooms for days without access to food.
Two students, speaking with RFE/RL at the Allamam Iqbal Airport in Lahore, shared their harrowing experience of the violence that erupted in the Kyrgyz capital. The returnees expressed relief at finally being able to leave the dangerous situation behind and return home.
The incident in Bishkek has highlighted the need for increased security measures to protect foreign students studying in the country. The safety and well-being of international students must be a top priority for authorities to ensure incidents like this do not happen again.
As these students return to Pakistan, they bring with them stories of fear and uncertainty. It is crucial that steps are taken to prevent such violence in the future and create a safe environment for all students, regardless of their nationality.
