Pakistan’s Prime Minister Affirms Decades-long Backing for Azerbaijan’s Territorial Integrity
Pakistan reiterates support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and rights over Karabakh
Baku, June 15 – In a recent press statement, Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and its rights over Karabakh. The statement came following an expanded meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
“Pakistan has always supported the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. We have always unequivocally supported Azerbaijan’s right over Karabakh,” stated Prime Minister Sharif.
The Prime Minister also highlighted Pakistan’s moral obligation to not establish diplomatic relations with Armenia, making it one of the few countries to maintain this stance. However, he indicated a potential reconsideration of this matter if Azerbaijan sends a message after signing a peace agreement with Armenia.
“We unequivocally support Azerbaijan in this issue as well,” emphasized Prime Minister Sharif, affirming Pakistan’s steadfast support for Azerbaijan’s position.
The statement by Pakistan’s Prime Minister comes at a crucial time when Azerbaijan and Armenia are striving to resolve their long-standing conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. The conflict, which originated in the early 1990s, resulted in the occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia.
Azerbaijan has been seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict, upholding its territorial integrity and the rights of its citizens in the occupied territories. Pakistan’s consistent support reinforces Azerbaijan’s position and may fuel international efforts towards a peaceful settlement.
