Panama President Calls Out Trump’s False Claims on Canal Reclamation

Panamanian President Accuses Trump of Lying About Panama Canal
Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino has spoken out against US President Donald Trump’s recent claims regarding the Panama Canal. Mulino accused Trump of “lying” about the US taking back the Panama Canal, stating that the vital waterway is not in the process of recovery as claimed by Trump.
In a speech to Congress, Trump asserted that his administration was reclaiming the Panama Canal, saying, “To further enhance our national security, my administration will be reclaiming the Panama Canal, and we’ve already started doing it.” However, Mulino strongly opposed this statement, denouncing it as an affront to the truth and the dignity of Panama and its people.
In response to pressure from Washington, Hong Kong firm Hutchison agreed to sell its Panama Canal ports to a US-led consortium. The sale includes a 90-percent stake in the Panama Ports Company (PPC) and other non-Chinese ports, with the sellers receiving $19 billion in cash.
Mulino’s firm stance against Trump’s claims reflects Panama’s commitment to upholding the truth and protecting its national interests in relation to the Panama Canal. The future of the vital waterway remains a topic of international discussion and scrutiny.
