Panel Discusses Turkey’s Role in Ensuring Security in Syria

The third and final session on “Humanitarian Aids of Turkey and Syria’s Restructuring Studies” took place in the Conference Hall of the Communication Presidency at Kirklareli University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, moderated by Assoc. Dr. Taha Eğri.

Huseyin Kök, the President of the Ministry of Interior Migration Management, spoke at the session about the return process of Syrians to their home country. He mentioned that since December 2024, Turkey has improved the capacity of its border gates, and Syrians wishing to return to Syria must first schedule an appointment online. The Provincial Directorate of Migration Management then responds to appointment requests the following day, inviting Syrians to their office where a return form is signed confirming their decision.

Izani Turan, the General Manager of the Turkish Religious Foundation, shared the humanitarian activities carried out in Syria since 2011. He mentioned that the foundation has 134 domestic personnel in Syria, focusing on Emergency Humanitarian Aid, Ramadan and Sacrifice Activities, Education, Cultural Activities, Health, Nutrition, and Shelter.

Kadir Temiz, the President of the Middle East Research Center (ORSAM), highlighted Turkey’s support for the restructuring of Syria and discussed the steps taken. He emphasized the differences in policies towards Syria before and after the revolution, focusing on the humanitarian aid and the rebuilding process, especially in terms of security and economic development.

Rector of Gaziantep University, Dr. Sait Mesut Doğan, mentioned the vocational school they opened in Jarablus, where they have graduated close to a thousand students. Doğan also shared information about the establishment of various departments in Syria, including the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in Elbab, the Faculty of Islamic Sciences in Azez, the Faculty of Education in Afrin, and the Vocational School in Jarablus.

The panel provided insight into Turkey’s humanitarian efforts and support for the restructuring of Syria, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and assistance in the region.
