Parasports Day Kicks Off with Emphasis on Visual Impairment

The II Hungaricum Para-Sports Day was recently opened by Attila Fülöp, State Secretary for Welfare Policy, at the Lakitelek Public College. Fülöp emphasized the importance of sports as a teacher of struggle and community values in a person’s life.

Highlighting the success of Hungarian para-athletes at the last summer’s Paralympics with 15 medals, Fülöp mentioned the strong presence of Hungarian para-sport on the international stage. He noted the natural connection between the Paralympics and the Olympics, attributing it to the spirit and determination of successful para-athletes in Hungary.

Member of the Parasport Subcommittee of the Hungarian Handball Association, Zsolt Orsós, shared his personal journey of losing his sight at a young age and thriving through the support of his family and the opportunities sports provided. He also mentioned the unanimous approval of the Hungarian Parasport Day by Parliament in 2018, celebrated every February 22nd.

This year, the focus of the Hungaricum Para-Sports Day in Lakitelek will be on sports opportunities for the visually impaired. The event will feature a rattle-ball volleyball tournament with participants from various schools and organizations. Presentations by experts from different fields will also be part of the day’s activities.

Around 200 students from schools in eight municipalities will be present at the II. Hungaricum Para-Sports Day, showcasing the growing interest and participation in para-sports in Hungary. The event aims to promote inclusivity and provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities to engage in sports activities.
