Parliament Accepts Proposals for Investigations and Discusses Amendment Bills

In a recent session of the General Assembly of the Parliament, several key decisions were made and bills were discussed and passed. The National Unity Party (UBP) and the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) jointly submitted a proposal to open two parliamentary investigations, both of which were accepted unanimously by the General Assembly.

The first proposal was to investigate the data of the Statistical Institute and the second proposal focused on the activities of higher education institutions in the country. The General Assembly also discussed and passed the Village and Neighborhood Councils of Aldermen Amendment Bill and the Pension (Amendment) Bill, with both bills receiving unanimous approval.

The discussion of these bills and proposals was part of the General Assembly’s agenda for the day, which was concluded with the completion of the work on the draft laws and parliamentary inquiries. The General Assembly is set to resume its work in another session scheduled for the following day.

One of the bills discussed and approved was the Village and Neighborhood Councils of Aldermen Amendment Bill, which received positive feedback from Independent Deputy Ayşegül Baybars. Additionally, Minister of Internal Affairs Dursun Oğuz provided updates on the progress of the Registration System (MAKS) Project, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with municipalities.

Another bill that was discussed and unanimously accepted focused on the Pension (Amendment) Bill, which aimed to address economic challenges and problems at the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). Members of the CTP and Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu expressed their commitment to supporting the future of EMU.

In addition to the bills, two proposals for parliamentary investigations were accepted regarding the accuracy of data from the Statistical Institute and the investigation of activities in the field of higher education. These proposals were presented unanimously and serve as a testament to the General Assembly’s commitment to oversight and accountability.

The General Assembly’s work concluded for the day, with plans to reconvene the following day at 10:00 to continue its legislative agenda. The decisions made reflect the Parliament’s dedication to addressing critical issues and advancing the country’s development.
