Parliament Concludes Budget Talks with Competition Board for BRTK

The 19 million 83 thousand TL Competition Board 2025 Fiscal Year Budget Bill within the Ministry of Economy and Energy has been accepted by a majority vote at the General Assembly of the Republic Assembly.

During the session, Committee Chairperson, Resmiye Eroğlu Canaltay, presented the report of the Economy, Finance, Budget, and Planning Committee on the bill, stating that it was accepted by a majority vote in the committee.

Deputy Speaker of the Parliament and CTP Deputy Fazilet Özdenefe took the floor to provide information about the Competition Law. Özdenefe mentioned that the Competition Board is composed of 5 members, with one member appointed as the chairman by the decision of the Council of Ministers after the appointment of the members.

Özdenefe raised concerns about the lack of decision-making by the Competition Board in recent months and questioned why certain issues, such as the prices of private schools, have not been addressed by the board.

Furthermore, CTP Deputy Ürün Solyalı criticized the current structure of the Competition Board, stating that it has been ineffective in controlling inflation and addressing the needs of low-income individuals. Solyalı suggested that the Ministry of Economy and Energy should be closed and replaced with a more efficient ministry.

The discussion on the report and draft of the budget bill concluded with a majority vote in favor. The Parliament will continue its budget discussions with the budgets of other departments on Monday and aims to finalize all budget negotiations by December 20th.

Overall, the session shed light on various issues related to the Competition Board and highlighted the need for more effective decision-making and intervention in crucial areas to benefit the citizens of the country.
