Parliament receives application regarding non-signaling drivers – Latest news in Turkey
The GNAT Petition Commission has recently reviewed and decided on various applications from citizens. Among the interesting petitions submitted to the commission were diverse requests that reflect the concerns and desires of the people.
One citizen from Ankara proposed a legal regulation to impose the penalty of withdrawing the driver’s license on top of the administrative fine for drivers who fail to use signal lights when turning or changing lanes. This initiative aims to promote safer driving practices on the roads.
Another citizen requested that non-aesthetic orthodontic treatments for individuals over the age of 18 be covered by the Social Security Institution (SGK). This proposal highlights the importance of accessible and affordable healthcare services for all members of society.
In Istanbul, a citizen urged for an extension of the duration of maternity leave, emphasizing the need for adequate support for working mothers during the critical postpartum period.
Furthermore, there were appeals to abolish the practice of women receiving their father’s salary after divorce or widowhood, as well as calls for financial assistance to long-term married women. These petitions seek to address gender equality and financial security issues faced by women in various life situations.
One notable complaint raised was regarding the design flaw at the junction of the wall and floor in the General Assembly hall of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. While the response from the Assembly highlighted the architectural limitations in making changes to the space, the citizen’s concerns underscore the importance of functional and aesthetically pleasing public spaces.
Other noteworthy applications to the commission include calls for a ban on street weddings and fireworks, requests for euthanasia in response to the euthanization of stray dogs, and proposals for fair payment structures for communal facilities like swimming pools.
Additionally, there were requests for permits for public officials to engage in business activities, the establishment of non-partisan local government models, and the enhancement of disability and pension benefits. Various professional groups and organizations also sought the authority to propose laws, demonstrating a commitment to participatory governance.
The wide range of petitions received by the commission reflects the diverse needs and priorities of the citizens, from economic reforms to social welfare policies.
