Parliament to Implement Face ID and Touch ID for Voting

Kyrgyz Parliament considers amendments to Law on Regulations
The Committee on Constitutional Legislation, State Structure, Judicial, Legal Issues and Regulations of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan has approved amendments to the Law on the Regulations of the Parliament in the first reading. The initiators of these changes are deputies Marlen Mamataliev and Nurlanbek Azygaliev.
Marlen Mamataliev explained that the draft law proposes to introduce a rule to hear information from the Cabinet of Ministers on socially significant issues as necessary. Additionally, it is proposed to move the “Miscellaneous” section from Thursday to Wednesday in order to prioritize the consideration of voter issues.
Deputy Zhusupbek Korgonbai uulu proposed the use of Face ID and Touch ID at voting meetings, citing concerns about deputies pushing buttons for each other during voting. Mamataliev responded that work is underway to introduce Face ID and Touch ID when voting, noting an agreement with Korea for the purchase of equipment and tablets totaling $8 million. He stated that if this proposal is implemented, voting and registration will be done using only fingerprint or Face ID, with the use of tablets replacing traditional paper-based processes.
These proposals, if implemented, could greatly impact the parliamentary voting process and the way meetings are conducted. The potential introduction of biometric technology reflects a modernization effort aimed at increasing transparency and accountability in the Kyrgyz Parliament.
