Parliamentary Committee to Investigate Child Abuse in Catholic Church

The opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) has put forward a proposal for a new resolution that aims to address the issue of sexual crimes against children within the church. According to the party’s deputy group leader, Ágnes Vadai, the draft resolution calls for the establishment of an independent committee to investigate these disturbing cases.
During an online press conference, Vadai highlighted the fact that there have been several instances in Hungary where children have fallen victim to paedophile predators in various institutions, including schools, foster homes, sports clubs, and Catholic establishments. She expressed concern over the lack of a dedicated committee or institution that works with independent civil experts to address these issues.
Vadai criticized the current government for not taking sufficient action to investigate and address cases of child abuse within the Catholic Church. She emphasized the importance of establishing a committee with a balanced composition, consisting of ten members appointed by the Catholic Church and another ten civil members selected by political parties represented in the Hungarian parliament and the European Parliament.
The proposed committee, according to Vadai, would ensure a fair, comprehensive, and thorough investigation into crimes committed within the Catholic Church, ultimately shedding light on these disturbing incidents. The resolution put forward by the Democratic Coalition aims to hold accountable those responsible for such heinous acts and provide justice for the victims.
As calls for action on this issue grow louder, it is evident that there is a pressing need for a concerted effort to address and prevent sexual crimes against children within the church and other institutions. The proposed committee could play a crucial role in bringing these crimes to light and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
