Passenger Rasul Kusherbayev Alleges Unfair Treatment on Wizz Air Flight, Placed on Airline’s Blacklist
Former deputy and environmental minister’s advisor Rasul Kusherbayev has filed a complaint against Wizz Air on the president’s portal after an incident during a flight from Samarkand to Abu Dhabi. Kusherbayev, who was seated near the emergency exit, requested safety procedures to be explained in Uzbek or Russian, but was told to leave the plane by the crew members who only explained them in English. The airline justified their actions stating it was in line with their rules.
Kusherbayev, an advisor to the Minister of Ecology of Uzbekistan, expressed his dissatisfaction with Wizz Air and submitted his complaint to the president’s virtual reception. In a video posted on YouTube, he mentioned that after requesting the safety instructions in Uzbek or Russian, he was asked to leave the plane.
Kun.uz reached out to the airline’s customer support service to investigate the matter. The airline representative stated that such a request was not against their rules.
According to Kusherbayev, he did not specifically choose the seat near the emergency exit and was unaware of the seating arrangement until boarding. The crew explained the safety procedures in English to everyone and then provided additional explanations to Kusherbayev, who requested them in Uzbek or Russian. When he refused to leave the plane, the crew threatened to contact the police in Abu Dhabi, which they did upon arrival. Kusherbayev stated that he would contact the Uzbek Embassy.
The former deputy considered the actions of Wizz Air disrespectful towards the state language in Uzbekistan. The airline, on the other hand, stated that passengers who do not speak English are not allowed to sit in seats near emergency exits, and if such passengers are assigned those seats, they may be moved to another seat or prohibited from flying if no other seats are available.
Kusherbayev’s complaint is currently being reviewed by the Ministry of Transport, as he seeks resolution to the incident with Wizz Air.
