Patient’s Relatives Assault Doctor, Highlighting Ongoing Violence in Healthcare.
Doctor Attacked by Parent in Sakarya Hospital Emergency Department
A doctor working in Sakarya Training and Research Hospital’s Gynecology and Pediatric Emergency Department was attacked by an angry parent on May 8th. The parent had brought his child to the ED claiming that an intravenous line could not be opened and became aggressive towards the doctor. The doctor was beaten and had a tooth broken during the attack.
Security guards who intervened in the fight handed over the attacker to the police, and an investigation was launched into the matter. The incident highlights the ongoing issue of violence against healthcare workers in Turkey.
In another incident, thirteen people were injured and seven were detained in a knife fight in Şırnak. The reasons for the fight have not been disclosed, and an investigation is ongoing.
