Phone Call Between Turkmenistan Chairman and Kazakhstan President
Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan Strengthen Strategic Partnership
In a recent telephone conversation, Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev discussed the further strengthening of the strategic partnership between the two countries. It was acknowledged that relations between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan are progressing dynamically and consistently across various areas of bilateral cooperation.
The leaders highlighted the recent intensification of political and diplomatic contacts as a positive development that provides a solid foundation for increased cooperation in fields such as economics, trade, humanitarian affairs, and water-related issues.
President Berdimuhamedov specifically addressed water issues, referring to a recent meeting held in Riyadh on December 3, 2024, during the United Water Summit. He emphasized the importance of discussing the comprehensive water issues of Central Asia based on principles such as adherence to international law, mutual consideration of all states’ interests in the region, and involvement of international organizations, particularly the UN.
Furthermore, President Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to Kazakhstan for effectively managing the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, assuring continued support from Turkmenistan in climate and environmental matters in the years to come.
The Turkmen President also mentioned his constructive discussion with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres regarding the launch of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, declared by a special resolution of the UN General Assembly.
Both leaders underscored the importance of implementing previous agreements in energy, transit-transport, and cultural-humanitarian spheres, stressing the need for timely consultations between their foreign ministries.
The conversation concluded with a focus on regional cooperation and upcoming events in a five-party format, affirming the commitment of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan to maintaining consolidated and coordinated approaches to common challenges.
