Physical Culture Academy Rector Arrested for Extortion in Bishkek

Bishkek – The rector of the Kyrgyz State Academy of Physical Culture and Sports has been detained on charges of extortion, as reported by the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic (SCNS).

According to the report, the rector allegedly demanded 100,000 soms in exchange for extending the agreement on leasing state property within the academy premises. The investigation revealed that teachers of the academy were also involved as intermediaries in the money transfer.

During an operation conducted as part of a criminal case, the rector and the implicated teachers were caught red-handed accepting $1,000. They have been placed in a temporary detention center while the investigation is ongoing.
