PM Orbán: Peace will come with action
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has emphasized that peace will not simply come on its own. In an interview on public radio, Orbán stated, “Peace will come when someone makes it,” referring to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
As Hungary holds the EU presidency, Orbán clarified that they do not have the mandate to negotiate on behalf of the European Union. He emphasized the need to demonstrate the unfolding situation to the leaders of the 27 EU member states so that they can make informed decisions.
Orbán highlighted the importance of Europe holding the compass of peace and humanity, urging for a humane foreign policy. He expressed hope that Europe could do more to move towards peace in the midst of the current crisis.
Reflecting on his recent meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Orbán stressed the significance of dialogue in moving towards peace. He acknowledged the challenges of bridging the gap between parties but emphasized the need for ceasefire and peace negotiations to eventually take place.
Regarding France’s upcoming parliamentary election, Orbán noted the potential influence it could have on the future of Europe. He highlighted the unprecedented breakthrough of a right-wing party in France’s domestic politics and the implications for European politics.
Orbán also addressed issues within the aviation and fuel sectors, expressing concern over flight delays and cancellations and urging fuel companies to adhere to agreements on pricing. He criticized the EU’s tariffs on China’s electric vehicle manufacturers, warning of potential trade war consequences.
On the economic front, Orbán highlighted efforts to boost the tourism sector and improve wages for Hungarian workers. He emphasized the importance of reaching agreements with employers to combat inflation and foster economic growth.
As Hungary faces various challenges domestically and on the global stage, Orbán stressed the importance of continued work and cooperation to navigate through these turbulent times.
