PM Orbán’s MEP Dömötör Criticizes Opposition Leader Péter Magyar’s Party
The newest members of the opposition Tisza Party in the European Parliament are already making waves, with a ruling Fidesz MEP noting that they seem to be following in the footsteps of the previous liberal party, Momentum. Csaba Dömötör, a member of Fidesz, expressed his concerns on Facebook about the Tisza MEPs attempting to interfere with Hungary’s energy price subsidy system.
According to Dömötör, Tisza MEP Gabriella Gerzsenyi has been vocal about the harm that Hungary’s subsidy system is causing. Recent votes by Tisza MEPs against the system indicate that they are taking their objections to a higher level. The European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research, and Energy (ITRE) has also approved a resolution condemning energy price subsidy systems in certain member states, with Tisza MEPs voting in favor of the resolution.
Dömötör criticized the Tisza MEPs for now trying to backtrack on their support for the resolution, stating that their actions are public knowledge and should not be denied. He also mentioned that his own position in the European Parliament came after a scandal involving Balázs Győrffy, an MEP from Fidesz, who resigned after being accused of assaulting a woman in Budapest.
In related news, Hungarian opposition leader Magyar has called on the EU to assist Hungarians in coping with increased energy and food prices. Additionally, Péter Magyar has expressed willingness to waive his immunity if Hungary joins the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
