Police Crack Down on Fraudulent Dating Scam: Scammers Target Victims’ Wallets, Not Hearts
The Fake Dating Gang Caught Stealing Hearts, Phones, and Bank Accounts
A group of criminals who posed as lovers to deceive and rob unsuspecting victims has finally been captured. A total of 9 suspects were detained in connection with the fake dating gang, who used a cunning scheme to steal not only their victims’ hearts but also their phones and bank accounts.
The fraudulent operation, reminiscent of a plot straight out of a movie, was uncovered in Ankara. The gang members would arrange to meet their victims under the pretense of a romantic encounter. Once together, they would convince the victims to step out of their vehicle for drinks or food, only to then snatch their phones and make a swift escape in another vehicle driven by other gang members.
But the deception didn’t end there. The cunning criminals would then attempt to access the victims’ internet banking accounts using the passwords stored on their stolen phones. If successful, they would transfer money into their own accounts and even take out loans in the victims’ names.
Upon receiving reports of the fraudulent activities, the Ankara Police Department Public Order Branch swiftly launched an investigation. As a result, 9 suspects were apprehended and now face charges for their crimes.
Further investigations revealed that 3 key suspects were responsible for orchestrating the fake dating scam, arranging meetings between the female gang members and their unsuspecting victims. Through careful scrutiny of crime scene footage and correspondence with banks, authorities discovered that a total of 34 individuals had been defrauded by the gang.
In a separate incident, 3 suspects involved in a similar phone fraud scheme were also arrested in Şanlıurfa. These arrests serve as a warning to would-be criminals that such acts of deceit and theft will not go unpunished. The authorities are committed to cracking down on these criminal operations and ensuring that justice is served for the victims.
