Police Intervene Provocateurs in Unauthorized Saraçhane Demonstrations

A group of demonstrators gathered in Saraçhane square to protest the recent arrests and dismissals of suspects, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality President Ekrem İmamoğlu, in relation to investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The group attempted to march towards Taksim Square, chanting slogans in front of the historic Bozdoğan gate, but was stopped by the police. Some of the protesters resorted to violence, throwing stones, torches, fireworks, and bottles at the police officers, leading to a confrontation.

Despite police intervention to disperse the violent demonstrators, some managed to enter the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality building, while others scattered onto the streets.

Meanwhile, CHP leader Özgür Özel addressed the crowd in front of the town hall, urging them to peacefully disperse. Those who did not heed the warning were also met with police intervention.

The situation remains tense in Saraçhane as police continue to maintain order and monitor the activities of the demonstrators.
