Iraqi national living in Samsun district falls victim to fraud
A 28-year-old man, identified only as HA, residing in the Atakum district of Samsun, was recently targeted by a fraudster who posed as a police officer and prosecutor. The fraudster contacted HA and claimed that his identity information had been used by a terrorist organization in a crime. Frightened and deceived, HA was coerced into meeting the fraudster at a workplace in the Kavak district.
Believing the fraudulent claims, HA went to the specified workplace and handed over 200 grams of jewelry, $5,800, and 8,000 Turkish Lira to the suspect. However, after realizing that he had been scammed, HA reported the incident to the police.
Following an investigation by the Samsun police, it was discovered that the fraudster had taken a commercial taxi to Hekimhan in Malatya. Through a collaborative effort between the Samsun Police Department Public Order Branch Directorate and the Hekimhan District Police Department, two individuals, identified as İ.Y (19) and the taxi driver HB (37), were apprehended with the stolen jewelry and money.
While the taxi driver HB was released after the necessary procedures, İ.Y was brought back to Samsun by police. İ.Y, who was taken into custody, is set to appear before the Samsun Courthouse following the completion of police interrogations.
