Political Parties Convene in Shusha with UBP – BRTK in Attendance
A historic meeting of ruling parties from Turkic Council member countries took place in Shusha, Azerbaijan, with the participation of the National Unity Party (UBP) from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. UBP Chairman and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, along with Secretary General and Famagusta Deputy Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, attended the political parties gathering organized by the Organization of Turkic States in Shusha.
During the meeting, Üstel emphasized the importance of the cooperation agreement signed between the ruling parties of Northern Cyprus, Turkey, and Azerbaijan at the end of 2023. He highlighted the increased inter-party dialogue and the positive impact it has had on intergovernmental relations. Üstel also mentioned the establishment of the TRNC and Azerbaijan Friendship Group by the National Parliament of Azerbaijan as a significant development in fostering mutual understanding between the two nations.
The meeting, which coincided with Azerbaijan’s national liberation day and the anniversary of the Shusha agreement on June 15, saw Üstel and Hasipoğlu engaging in bilateral discussions with party leaders from Hungary, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. Hasipoğlu underscored the importance of political party cooperation in advancing common goals and cited the cooperation protocol between the AK Party, New Azerbaijan Party, and UBP as a model for other ruling parties to follow. He expressed the desire to expand the One Nation, Three States concept within the Organization of Turkic States by involving more member countries.
Overall, the meeting in Shusha served as a platform for political parties to strengthen ties, share experiences, and work towards common objectives within the framework of the Turkic Council. The ongoing collaboration between ruling parties from different Turkic nations bodes well for enhanced regional cooperation and solidarity.
